Job shadowing can give you the opportunity to observe what a “day in the life” of a professional working in your field of interest may actually look like. You observe daily tasks and responsibilities—as they’re being routinely performed in a professional work setting. This firsthand exposure can help identify personal interests and passions—important information when contemplating a college major or career path.

Sophomore, juniors and seniors at Iowa City West High School can sign up for three job shadowing opportunities each year through Workplace Learning Connection. Members of West High Biology actively work with Mr. Russ Johnson in the Counseling Department—a virtual treasure trove of information regarding job shadowing opportunities.

All Iowa City West High School students are welcome to drop in—at their convenience—at any of our club meetings to discuss exploring job shadowing opportunities.
